My Top 100 Photos from 2022

2022 marked my 10th year as a wedding photographer, and my my, it’s been quite a journey. This year I was a featured entry in Capture Magazine’s Australasia’s Top Wedding Photographers 2022 (judging to be announced in February 2023), was a finalist for the ACON Honour Awards, and was named a winner of the Out For Australia 30 Under 30 awards.

This year also was the year I officially launched Queer Wedding Ally Training, an online course that teaches wedding vendors how to be LGBTQ+ inclusive in their businesses. I did an interview with Pedestrian.TV to mark 5 years of Marriage Equality in Australia, and created a documentary podcast First Look: How Marriage Equality is Transforming the Wedding Industry.

On the photo end of the business (which really is the most important thing), and still reeling from a global pandemic, this year I was lucky enough to shoot 35 weddings, 12 engagements, and 6 newborns – totalling well over 180,000 photos. As you can imagine, choosing a top 100 was no easy task!

These photos do a pretty good job of summing up my year as wedding photographer – experimenting with new techniques and camera gear, adapting to different lighting and weather conditions (hello again La Nina!), strengthening my editing workflow, and learning from my mistakes and successes. After going back through each of my galleries from the year, I carefully chose these photos for their lighting, composition and/or the moment captured. Ultimately, each photo here makes me feel something. I hope they make you feel something too.

Upon reflection, 2022 reminded me that being a documentary wedding photographer is still one of my favourite things to do in life. With each couple I photograph comes an exciting opportunity to get curious, ask important questions, and grow as a human. 2022 has been fulfilling beyond measure, and I am looking forward to expanding my skills and the stories I tell next year.
