This is the story of a mysterious puzzle and a Beta Events Sydney wedding…
Charlie had spent six months organising his proposal to his boyfriend, Ash. First, he surprised Ash with a ticket to London and Paris. Then when they were in Paris, he gave him another gift: a puzzle.
The puzzle was a collage of photos of the two of them taken over their years spent together. Ash was tasked with completing the puzzle in their hotel room while they were staying in Paris, but noticed that one piece was missing. Playing coy, Charlie promised to call the puzzle company and get to the bottom of the missing piece. The next day, when visiting the Eiffel Tower, Charlie dropped the missing piece of the puzzle on the floor and pointed it out. Ash picked it up and saw hand-written on the back of the piece the question “Will you marry me?”
Charlie and Ash are the quintessential modern couple. From the moment they met, they were inseparable. Now, after many years of dating and integrating their lives together, they have gone and done the thing: they got married! Well, sorta. Turns out there were already married in a quiet, private ceremony a year ago! But fast forward to November 2022, and these two beautiful humans chose to put on the biggest party of their lives to celebrate their union with friends and family from near and far.
I quickly saw how perfectly matched these two were. Charlie’s caring, creative and gentle charisma balances Ash’s warm effervescence and vulnerability. Together they bring out the best in one another, creating a beautiful dynamic between two devoted hearts.

Charlie’s skills as a designer were on full display, with his wedding stationery business Stone & Sparrow doing all of the signage and paper goods. If you’re looking for some wedding stationery, be sure to check out his phenomenal work here and support his business!
Upon arrival, the wedding guests were greeted with a tray of perfectly curated cocktails and wines, as well as some of the most delicious canapes. Followed by a mouth-watering Greek-inspired banquet, Beta Events offered up some of the best food I’ve ever eaten at a wedding venue!
Speaking of, Beta Events is one of those wedding venues in Sydney that is a bit of a hidden gem right in the heart of the city. This was my first time photographing a wedding here, but I must say, it’s stunning. The exposed brick throughout the entire reception space, beautiful decor, and excellent staff all make this an unforgettable wedding venue. I’m so impressed that Charlie and Ash (who don’t even live in Sydney!) were able to secure such a state-of-the-art venue for their wedding. Big shout out to Beta Events for managing the day so efficiently, ensuring everything went smoothly and according to plan.
I would recommend this venue for any couple, whether you want to host your ceremony, reception (or both, like Charlie and Ash) in their magnificent ballroom.
I’ve selected a small portion of the photos from Ash & Charlie’s wedding that I think capture the essence of the day. The styling, the food, the venue, and of course, some heart-warming memories of joy and magic.
